From Car Salesman to Silicon Valley Entrepreneur: A Behind the Scenes Look at One Founder’s Journey
In December 2010, my friend Michael Perry quit his job as a car salesman to pursue a career in tech. But the problem was: companies like Facebook and Twitter wouldn’t hire him because he didn’t have a background in tech. So he did what any entrepreneur would do: he decided to launch his own company!
Fast forward a year: that company failed. He decided to launch another one. Yeah, that one failed too. And by this time, his credit cards were maxed out, his student loans were in default, and he was living off of unemployment and his wife’s paycheck. By all accounts, he was at one of the lowest points of his life.
But Michael decided to give it another try.
…and this time he would get it right! In April 2016, Michael’s third startup, Kit, sold to Shopify, the #1 e-commerce platform in the world!
Last month, I sat down with Michael and he shared the never-before-told, behind-the-scenes story of what really went down during this extremely tumultuous, yet fulfilling, journey from car salesman to Silicon Valley entrepreneur!
