6 Holiday Hacks That Successful People Do to Get Ahead
It’s my favorite time of year. Everyone’s gone home, away messages are up, requests have stopped, I have time to myself…ahhhhh, it’s a great place to be! But not everyone knows how to take advantage of this downtime to get ahead. Below, I’ve outlined what I call the “6 Holiday Hacks” you can do immediately if you want to accelerate your success over the winter break. You can either watch my video, read my writing , or do both. The choice is yours. Thanks for stopping by and Happy Hacking the Holidays!

1. Do a braindump
You know all that chatter in your head. Dump it out. All of it. Errands, bills, work obligations, family engagements…dump it all out on a piece of paper. Then divide everything into 2 buckets: what you’re going to do now (during the holiday break) and what will wait until later. That’s it. Get it out of your head, make a decision, and move on. That’s a skill successful people master.
2. Post content
Over the holidays, so many people are lounging around browsing their smart phones, computers and tablets. You have a captive audience; take advantage of it by posting some great content that will benefit your personal brand, company or side hustle.
3. Go after the big dogs
Who are your dream people? When I say “dream people” I’m talking about: who are those people that if you knew them, they could definitely accelerate your success? More than likely those people are a few circles removed from your personal network. The holidays provide down time you normally don’t have. Why not use this time to craft a plan to get in contact with these people? If you need guidance on where to start, here’s an article I wrote about how to draft the perfect email.
4. Stop and smell the roses
One of the biggest secrets to success is gratitude. Truly reflecting on all the abundance you already have in your life and truly feeling the immense joy that comes along with recognizing this. Being grateful is a habit to not only practice during the holidays, but to master every single day. And while you’re giving thanks for what you already have, don’t forget to reach out to those special people who’ve helped you along the way. Maintaining great relationships with people who can support your growth can make all the difference for someone who’s aiming to be successful.
5. Strategize
I read once that a key to success is having the ability to focus while others are distracted. This is spot on when it comes to the holiday season. While most people interpret Thanksgiving or December 1st as the time of year when they should begin checking out, successful people recognize that this is the perfect time to double down. Take some time to strategize how you’re going to end this year strong and set yourself powerfully come January 1st!
6. Stop Working
Yeah, I know. I seem like a hypocrite right now. But trust me. What I’m saying is not counterintuitive. There is an important reason holidays, vacations, breaks and other things of the sort exist: you are a human being, not a machine. Sorry to have to break it to you, but the fact of the matter is is that you weren’t built to go nonstop. Adequate rest is vital to your long term sustainability and overall creativity and productivity, and it’s been recorded time and time again that the most successful people master turning work off on and on. So once you’re done with steps 1–5, make sure you unplug, relax, recharge, and spend some time with your loved ones. For without them, life just isn’t all that great anyway, no matter how successful you become.
